Major Accomplishments

·         GE Distribution manufactures parts for other GE units on the island based on being the lowest bidder for parts.  Some parts previously provided to the other plants were not being provided because Distribution was not the lowest bidder.  Evaluated parts that were no longer being produced for the other units and requoted these, becoming once again the lowest bidder and gaining the business once more.  Impact on business was $164K in recovered sales and $71K in new sales.

·         As a means of minimizing capital expenditures, Distribution established a project to identify production machinery that needed overhauling with the purpose of maximizing useful life of the equipment, improving quality of product, and reducing downtime, among others.  Brainstormed with a team of machine mechanics to identify parts to be replaced.  Searched for quotations and verified delivery time.  Calculated labor time in making the overhaul.  Requested funds and conducted the project.  As a justification for the investment in this project, began a process to measure downtime with control charts.

·         As a means of simplifying and accelerating the changeover process in machine set up, changed the tooling system from using forming tools to inserts.  This significantly reduced the changeover time and eliminated the need to resharpen the forming tools.   This reduced labor to the equivalent of $15K annually.

·         Performed the tracing of efficiency vs. production for a period of two months in the deburring operation.  Developed statistical analysis of data to come to the conclusion that production output was not tied to the two persons assigned to the area.  One person was transferred to another area.  Efficiency was again measured to verify impact on productivity, concluding that the transfer of one person to another area did not impact the same.  Headcount savings of $15K annually.
